_______________
"A film that stands out for its intoxicating pace, craftful editing, and masterful use of found footage. Tik-Tak takes us through the journey of a life-cycle, delivered through thrilling juxtaposition and groupings of moving images." (Kim Kielhofner)
"An intelligent downer. One direction: decay = erase. Smart and it smarts. Crushed spider. Sound stripe is seen and not heard. Dynamic music. Fitting subject/action groups. Just the right scanning frame. A clear story that hurts/hits real." (Sandy McLennan) |
_______________
"A film that manages to capture a place and moment in time and arrange it into a poetic work. Through exquisite imagery and use of sound, En el tumulto de la calle creates a portrait of the beauty and the fragility of the everyday." (Kim Kielhofner)
Colour, grain, edits pull us in from the start. A "bearable" amount of damage. Back to life while feeling the dead. Mannequin (maybe) hand and face; a flower bundle shroud/corpse; young coffin dweller opens eyes. Music and whispering accompany mood. Flashes make transition. Resilience in shrines and dance steps. (Sandy McLennan) |
_______________
A film that invokes the wonderfully weird, not only in subject, but its use of archival material, abstraction, and sound. Through a deceptively simple structure, Beauty and the Beasts gingerly delivers us into space that's both uncanny and reassured. (Kim Kielhofner)
Textures and gullet sound, apt pace of lovely movement. A curious and involving dream. All the dots that make up the picture. Interrelationship somehow comforting. (Sandy McLennan) |
Félicitations aux gagnants, et merci à tous les cinéastes et pour le soutien de notre public! | Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all the filmmakers and for the support from our audience!

Sandy McLennan loves wandering just outside his darkroom door (the home or portable one) with cameras and sound recorders. While hand-processing celluloid motion pictures and pinhole paper negatives, he reveals what fits to express current personal and state-of-the-world emotions. He improvises sound tracks from shoot-location field recordings and sounds associated with creating the work. He leads workshops enabling the experience of slow time via analogue technology.
