À PROPOS MUFF | ABOUT MUFF

Le MUFF a pour but de célébrer et de faire connaître des réalisatrices et réalisateurs d’oeuvres à petit budget qui remettent en question les contraintes du cinéma traditionnel et hollywoodien. Co-fondé par Karina Mariano et Zoë Brown, le MUFF est devenu un collectif de réalisateurs indépendants, d’écrivains, de professeurs et de cinéphiles dédiés à la recherche de films avant-gardistes, nourris de liberté créatrice, d’énergie et d’expérimentation. Les films affiliés aux grands studios, ou créés comme des “cartes de visite” (c’est-à-dire des films qui sollicitent, plus ou moins discrètement, l’industrie commerciale) ne sont pas pris en compte par le festival.

MUFF celebrates low-budget filmmaking and promotes those who challenge the constraints and conventions of mainstream Hollywood. Co-founded by Karina Mariano and Zoë Brown, MUFF has morphed into a collective of independent filmmakers, writers, teachers and cinephiles committed to seeking out edgy films bristling with a sense of creative freedom, energy and experimentation. Films in any way affiliated with a major motion picture studio, and “calling-card” films (that is, slick, thinly disguised shout-outs to the commercial industry), are ineligible.
